When we designed this reel we had one thing in mind. Tarpon. The goal was to create a larger reel that bridged the gap between the 9 plus and 12 plus models. We also wanted to make sure it had an oversized handle for greater grip control when fighting those big silver critters. The mid arbor option is also great for spey rods from 13.5'to 14.5'.

1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Major design flaw!!!!!, 8.29.2013
Reviewer: John J (Murrells Inlet, SC)

I bought one of these reels, and within a year i discovered a major design flaw. The cap on top of the spool is only pressed onto the threaded sleeve that anchors it to the arbor. After so many times of removing the spool, the cap will just pop off, and so will your spool. When i called Hatch about this, of course i got the "we've never heard of that happening" story. Right... They replaced the spool, and immediately tested it to see if the same thing would happen, and it did. If you tighten it down enough, that cap pops right off. The guys at Hatch really have a lot to learn before that can attempt to compete with companies like Tibor. Until then your $$$ would be better off spent on a reel made by one of the better companies. By the way, if you're not convinced, i have one i can sell you cheap.
