I have been eyeing this reel for a long time. While some may say it is a little overkill for trout fishing, I argue it is the perfect reel. I feel great knowing I have a sealed drag and can easily change spools based on the rod, type of fishing and body of water I am fishing. I absolutely love this reel and would recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade their reel. I will never buy another reel again, just spools!

A powerhouse of a reel, this is a true top of the line reel that will last a lifetime. I work for an aerospace machine shop so trust me when I say that the finatic is built to last. I just got back from Yellowstone and a had a 19” cutthroat get into some fast water and made a hell of an attempt to escape, the drag was flawless and putting the line back on the reel was an impressive feel of power and quality.

I have multiple different trout reels. This is my favorite by far. Great sound for in and out going. Sturdy indestructable drag. Balances nicely with a 5wt. rod.

OK. So all a reel does is hold line on a rod. True. But who doesn't want to own a piece of art every once and while (or a few times). Bonus if that reel NEVER needs maintenance! I own three HATCH Finatic+ reels. 3+, 4+, 5+ My 5+ black is a happy union of function and form. Beautiful to behold and use. Very smooth drag and start up. A single machined piece of aluminum used for the reel and reel foot is genius—no screws to foul or maintain and it's rock solid. The oversized knurled drag knob is welcome when you're wearing gloves in cold weather. These reels are a bit heavy to pair with super light high end rods. My 5+ finatic balances very well with my H2 Helios 6wt tip flex for blasting streamers. These reels will last forever, destined to be heirlooms. Only wish they offered individual numbers on these, but I understand that's saved for the limited edition runs—looking forward to getting one of those one day. I doubt I'll get a 1+ for a light brookie rod— a click'n'paw fits that order. And while HATCH reels may be overkill for our Virginia mid to large stocker bows and browns (14-24"era), the reels are still a joy to have and use. When I get a 8 or 9 weight for musky and light saltwater, I'll be looking at a HATCH.

I purchased the 4 Plus at the beginning of the summer and so far I am in love with it. The machining is beautiful, the reel feels flawless, the drag has great range and I love that it is completely sealed. Switching the retrieve is very easy. I have absolutely no complaints with the reel and I see myself purchasing additional spools for it as I get more rods. I currently have it paired with an 8' 6" 4 wt Helios 2 and the balance is perfect. I would recommend the reel to anyone and it is worth every penny.
