We call this bad boy the do it all reel. We've used this workhorse surf fishing in So Cal, light steelheading in Oregon, hucking nasty streamers to ravenous browns in Montana, and stalking bones on the flats in Belize. Designed for running 5 through 7 line weights.

I have always gazed and admired the Hatch reels from a distance and told myself, "one day." Each time I would try to justify the cost, calling out quality and brilliant engineering. But ultimately never making the leap. My amazing wife purchased the Hatch 5 Plus Finatic Reel for me on our wedding day. It balances perfectly with Sage One 6 weight rod. My Hatch reel is hands down the finest piece of fly fishing wonderment that one could use. It is sleek, smooth and solid. It brings together the elegancy of fly fishing and the durability of a fine machine. This reel is a phenomenal instrument and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys fly fishing, likes catching trout and loves landing them!

I began a search a few months ago for a quality fly reel that would last me and become an heirloom. After looking at and comparing several other competitor high end reels, I choose the 5+. It is my go to reel for light salt here in TX. The drag is smooth and you can feel the quality of the reel when you pick it up. A lot of people say that Hatch's are heavy, i actually prefer a little more weight on the reel so that i am not fighting a heavy rod tip all day. You cannot make a mistake going with a Hatch, in fact I plan on adding a 7+ to my arsenal in the near future.

OK. So all a reel does is hold line on a rod. True. But who doesn't want to own a piece of art every once and while (or a few times). Bonus if that reel NEVER needs maintenance! I own three HATCH Finatic+ reels. 3+, 4+, 5+ My 3+ silver is a happy union of function and form. Beautiful to behold and use. Very smooth drag and start up. A single machined piece of aluminum used for the reel and reel foot is genius—no screws to foul or maintain and it's rock solid. The oversized knurled drag knob is welcome when you're wearing gloves in cold weather. These reels are a bit heavy to pair with super light high end rods. My 5+ finatic balances very well with my Helios ZG 7wt. These reels will last forever, destined to be heirlooms. Only wish they offered individual numbers on these, but I understand that's saved for the limited edition runs—looking forward to getting one of those one day. I doubt I'll get a 1+ for a light brookie rod— a click'n'paw fits that order. And while HATCH reels may be overkill for our Virginia mid to large stockers and browns (14-24"era), the reels are still a joy to have and use. When I get a 8 or 9 weight for musky and light saltwater, I'll be looking at a HATCH.

Great reel for 6wt -8wt . Awesome drag and bulletproof. A bit heavier tham some other reels out there but it will never let you down. I fish it primarily on mt glass 8wt and it balances beautiful
