Just built my first flyrod from a blank (4-weight, 11-ft), and needed an inexpensive reel. I have 7 other fly reels and this one seems more than adequate as a trout reel, with a very sensitive and smooth drag. I should have bought a spare spool, and expect that I will with my next purchase.

Nice reel. Nylon or graphite...I don't know, but it is light and very strong in it's assembly. A screw-down-to tighten drag (like the kind on the front of spinning reels) that is plenty powerful enough for anything I'll be catching with a fly rod. I bought two spare spools @ $19.99 at Fishwest and now only need take one rod, one reel, two spare spools. Great value. Stockton, CA Aug 2011
