Is It The Most Practical Retractor For Me?, 9.13.2012

I've had a chance to use this, now, for a couple of months and here are my thoughts - using them on my SIMMS Headwaters Chest pack: 1. looks nice & cosmetically goes well with the SIMMS chest pack. 2. Not as nice/functional as the SIMMS retractor built into the SIMMS vests. The plastic tube holding the retractor coil is large, bulky, and it does catch on my fly line & tippet when releasing fish or changing flies. Having two of these, one on each side of the pack, doubles the chance of line/tippet hanging/getting caught on the retractors. . . on the positive side of the hang-ups, at least the line/tippet doesn't wrap around the devices, easy to lift off. They are well made like all of SIMMS fine products. However, on a chest pack, I think a smaller device would have been more practical & less obtrusive for my purposes.

If you are looking for a retractor to attach to your vest or chest pack, this is it. There is a better looking fishpond retractor similar to this one, but is way expensive.
