"If we are going to do it, we will make it
realistic, and educational." These were the words of Ed Cornia, Executive producer of
the finest CD-ROM hunting games on the market, as he discussed the possibilities of a
series of fishing games with Paul Halter, owner of Winding Rivers Software. "We are
known for producing realistic games. All of our hunting games use actual photographic
backgrounds, sounds and lend an element of realism to the computer game environment."
| Thus was born the idea for a series of fishing titles, a
cooperative effort between the two companies. The first in the series, Fly Logic, Fly
Fishing The Green River will be released in late august. Production
began in January, with Paul Halter beginning to program routines to make fly casting seem
real in the computer environment. Phone conversations between the staff at Oquirrh
Productions and Paul spawned the concept of a game that would not only be realistic and
enjoyable, but would teach fly-fishing. |

The object of the game is to become a guide on the Green River, for
Flaming Gorge Lodge. To accomplish this you need to float the river twice a month for six
months, and meet several challenges. Catching fish on dry flies, nymphs and streamers,
catching all species, catching more than 20 fish in a day, and many more. Guy Collette of Flaming Gorge Lodge was instrumental in providing input, and
support in developing game play ideas, and in the filming for the project. |
| In the game you can fish in the overhead view, while drifting the
river, or stop at the various locations between the dam and Little Hole to wade and fish
from the bank. Casting is realistic on the actual film backgrounds. With a mouse, you move
the mouse backward and forward to simulate the casting motion. With a joystick, just use it like the handle of a fly rod, and the game is
force feedback enhanced! When using a force feedback joystick game controller, you feel
the fight of the fish! |

Oquirrh Productions, in cooperation with Winding Rivers
Software, Flaming Gorge Lodge and Fly Logic Corporation, are hoping this game will teach
existing anglers more about matching the hatch, selecting equipment and river conditions,
and will help new anglers become more adept at the sport.
