| Start thread behind head and form this base
to about 1/3 of the hook bend, tie in a single 4" strand of Zelon (some material
needs to be removed on smaller sized hooks, i.e. about 20% for a size 16). Using fingers
or hemostats twist the Zelon in to a tight rope and wrap forward to about 1/3 back from
the eye (twist the Zelon one or two times after each wrap to ensure a tight rope body).
Tie in and wrap one or two strands of peacock herl (a little head cement under the peacock
herl will make it much more durable), select some light colored (preferably chamois
colored) deer or elk hair. Tie a small bunch of hair on top of the hook, with
three or four wraps of thread in the middle of the hair bunch (make a loose wrap first and
then increase pressure on the other wraps to flare the hair up. Whip finish in front
of the hair then carefully trim the hair to form a small head with a small collar. "This
fly works well on the Provo in green, olive and red colors. I usually fish it
as an attractor in a two nymph setup or as a dropper on a larger dry fly like a Stimulator
or Elk Hair Caddis. Try different sizes and try some with bead heads.
Enjoy."
