Halo Emerger - Fly Fishing Utah

 Hook: 10-24 standard dry fly hook
Thread:  8/0 brown or tan
Tag:  Clear antron or poly yarn
Tail:  Brown marabou fibers
Body:  Brown synthetic seal fur or rabbit dubbing
Halo:  Closed cell foam (clear packing foam)
Thorax:  Brown synthetic seal fur or rabbit dubbing
Spike:  Orange deer hair - extending forward
Head:  thread

  1. Tie in thread and wrap past curve of hook.

  2. Tie in clear antron and wrap forward to top of bend.

  3. Tie in a short tail of the marabou fibers.

  4. Dub the body.

  5. Figure-8 wrap the foam onto hook and trim.

  6. Attach deer hair post.

  7. Whip finish.

The foam and tag are always clear.  The body and tail are always the same color. The deer hair is always orange.  Common colors for this pattern are tan, olive and brown (as pictured).
