This pattern has not been published in many books, so it has a lot variations.  Emmett Heath, aka "The Dean of the Green,"  likes to tie his with pink or peach crystal chenille, where others like to use the glo bug yarn.  That would simply be a preference for flashy vs. non-flashy.

Though this fly may look somewhat silly, it has proven itself as a very effective pattern on many different waters, both lakes and rivers.
